Class Descriptors
What genre do you or your child wish to learn?
01.
Classical Ballet
Classical ballet is a stunning technique which underpins the strength and beauty of all other techniques. It also stands alone in its tradition as a historical and beautiful art form paired with Classical Music and Classical Art.
02.
Jazz
Jazz emerged as a dance form as a parallel to Jazz Music, however it stands alone now as a fun and vibrant dance genre that is modern and varied. A great way to involve children who love to move and enjoy popular music.
03.
Lyrical Dance
Lyrical Dance appears as a combination of Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Lyrical is used to tell stories that are usually deeper in nature and express emotions.
04.
Contemporary Dance
Contemporary Dance is a break-away from Classical Ballet that emerged during the first half of the 20th Century. Dancers exploring movement that was not up-right like Ballet, wanted to throw themselves off-centre and use the floor more to create. Contemporary Dance was born and is used for powerful expression of stories as well as brilliance in Dance technique.
05.
Tap Dancing
Fun and energetic and enjoyed by Adults and Children, Tap Dancing emerged in the Industrial Revolution in the late 19th Century. Bored with long hours of work in the factories, creative souls moved their feet in time with the machines. Their feet created music and rythm. The genre has survived and increased in popularity with the famous Tap Dogs and the Tap Pack setting it apart as a male dominated genre. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers showed the genre as a partner dance full of elegance and romance.
06.
Musical Theatre
A combination of Dance, Drama and Song, Musical Theatre tells a story using the talents of all 3 Art Forms. The ability to hold a note, move your body and immerse yourself into a character provides a class of fun and creativity while building on all 3 abilities culminating in a wonderful performance.
